City Overview

Englewood borders Denver on the south. Its 2021 population was 35,371. In 1864 an Irish immigrant, Thomas Skerritt, had a 640-acre homestead which is most of present-day Englewood. Thomas Skerritt is now referred to as the “Father of Englewood.”

Quick History

In the 1800s gold prospectors traveling to California discovered gold in present-day Englewood. They established camps and people soon started buying up large amounts of land.

On May 13, 1903, citizens voted 169 to 40 in favor of incorporation.

Englewood has 32 Preschools, 20 Elementary Schools, 12 Middle Schools, 9 High Schools, 15 Public District Schools, and 33 Private Schools, for a total of 48 Schools.

Pirates Cove Water Park has large pools, play areas, a huge bucket that dumps water on anyone underneath it, a lazy river, 3 water slides, and a beach.

Fun Facts About Englewood CO

Since the area was known for its abundance of trees, the town was named Englewood, which means “wooded nook.” FTD floral, horsecars, and mass transit all began in Englewood.
